What are the benefits of meditation?

Meditation is becoming more and more popular, with many people using meditation techniques in everyday life. Meditation has been proven to help physical and mental health and wellbeing. At Divine Escape in St Martins, Oswestry, we think meditation is something everyone should practice on a regular basis. We have put together a brief explanation of meditation - what it is, how it can help you and some examples of meditations.

What is meditation?

Meditation is not just a skill, but it should be treated as an experience - with it being unique each and every time. You are training your mind to be more open, aware and at ease. Over time, this encourages greater calm, clarity, contentment and compassion. Meditation is for everyone, not just those who are spiritual or religious. A common misconception is that meditation is used to clear the mind, and that you shouldn’t think of anything during meditation sessions. This is untrue. If you receive any thoughts during meditation, you should just let them be, and let them go in a relaxed manner. There are no guidelines on how often you should meditate, or how long for. However, you should notice a difference in yourself fairly quickly even after meditating for five minutes a day.

How can meditation help you?

Meditation has the potential to improve the psychological, emotional, and physical quality of life for those who dedicate time to practising meditation regularly. Here are some scientifically-proven benefits of regular meditation:

  • Reduces Stress

  • Controls Anxiety

  • Promotes Emotional Health

  • Enhances Self Awareness

  • Lengthens Attention Span

  • Reduce Age-Related Memory Loss

  • Can Generate Kindness

  • Help Fight Addictions

  • Improves Sleep Quality

It can give you fuel to sustain your spiritual connection, as well as giving you the opportunity to welcome your guides and angels to come close to you. Your mind will be more open whilst meditating, allowing you to communicate with them more freely.

Are there different types of meditation?

There are many different types of meditation, with each one being used for different reasons and intentions. Before beginning any meditation, you should make your intentions clear. What do you want to gain out of this session? For example, if you are wanting to reduce stress and anxiety. You can meditate anywhere, at any time. It is your choice and preference whether you meditate lying down, sitting on a chair or even sitting on the floor. The key is to make sure you are completely comfortable, and able to allow your mind to be free. Music helps many people meditate, however, some people prefer silence. A guided meditation can help those that need extra help on their meditation journey.

What are guided meditations?

Learning to meditate is like learning any other skill. It takes practise and perseverance until you will be able to meditate with ease. Guided meditations are a great introduction to meditation. You are guided through relaxation techniques and usually taken on a truly unique journey to help your specific needs. There are many generic guided meditations available online. However, these will not teach you as much as personalised 1-2-1 guided meditations. We are now offering 1-2-1 guided meditation sessions at our Oswestry based holistic and spiritual centre. Benefit from the surroundings of our beautifully relaxing and tranquil treatment room, as Deb Hughes, an experienced and trained meditation guide, puts together a bespoke meditation for you. Our guided meditation sessions are £35 for a 45 minute 1-2-1 session. Call us on 01691 778012 to book your appointment.
